Originally trained in graphic design , the artist began to work in transparent watercolor upon his retirement from the Los Rios Community College District in 1996. His approach to the medium is influenced by the work of water media-collage artist, Gerald Brommer. The use of a variety of hand made papers from Asia, called Washi, provided the textural qualities prevalent in many of his paintings. Some works incorporate gouache and colored pencil as well. The artist considers himself primarily a landscapist and works from sketches, photographs and notes. Raised in San Joaquin Valley, memories of hot dry summers and the relief provided by the California coast are often subject matter of inspirations. His works have been included in many local large and small group exhibitions and is in numerous private collections. He is a member of Sacramento Fine Art Center, Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons and Elk Grove Artists. He is represented by the FastFrame Gallery in Roseville, California. |
